Hazard Communication
(Amendments)
The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (OSHSB) proposes revisions to the hazard communication provisions contained in
GISO---General Industry Safety Orders. A few changes:
-Update labels within three months when newly aware of significant hazard information
-Employers may maintain MSDS information in other languages, in addition to the English version
-May maintain MSDS information in non-paper version if no barrier to immediate access.
-Adopt federal language requiring that MSDS training be effective.*
* Ed.note: What constitutes "effective" training? What guidelines will OSHA inspectors employ to evaluate? Just asking.
