Workplace Violence

Violence in the workplace is a serious issue as evidenced by 551 homicides in the year 2004. According to federal OSHA this represents the third leading cause of fatal occupational injuries in the United States.

In this regard the New York State legislature recently enacted its Workplace Violence Prevention Act. The bill requires employers with more than 20 workers to assess risk and develop and implement a written plan of action to prevent potential workplace violence.

Supported by both labor and management, such legislative pro-active efforts bode well for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all employees.
